Causes of PPD
Researchers cannot pinpoint the specific causes of postpartum depression. However, many speculate that fluctuating hormone levels before and after childbirth can increase the risk of developing PPD. Studies have also shown that social and environmental stressors can have a significant impact. A few potential stressors include access to equitable healthcare and counseling services, monetary pressures, Intimate Partner Violence, and absence of social support.
