Our Project

Purpose

Postpartum depression (PPD) and other perinatal mood disorders are common, complex, and serious. However, many physicians do not adequately share information about these disorders. Consequently, many families are unaware of the devastating impact these disorders can have on health and relationships. Individuals and families may feel alone in fighting against PPD.

We believe that it is crucial to discuss the risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment options, and steps to prevent postpartum depression. We are also convinced that self-advocacy is essential because many physicians are not forthcoming with information regarding perinatal mood disorders. We desperately see the need to organize a community outreach project that reaches those most at risk in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Research Process

Our primary methods of outreach included flyers, zoom, and community partners.

Flyers: Used as a mode to advertise dates and times for our presentation

Zoom: Used as a platform to deliver our presentation

Community Partners: Advertised and organized events for our presentation

Sources

We used many credible sources to complete this community health project. Some of our sources include the California Department of Health, National Institutes of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
